POPULATION PROBLEM OF BANGLADESH
Water problem
When a country remains in such a state that it cannot accommodate and foster its population with adequate food,
clothing, shelter education etc. within its recognized territory, the country is said to have burdened with population
problem. Most interesting it is that population which appears to one country as a problem may also appear to another country
as a blessing. In fact importance of population in the development activities is immeasurable. But that becomes true only
when a country rares and cares an optimum population and makes proper and prudent use therof in its production and
development activities.

Present state of Population in Bangladesh :
Rapid growth of population is identified as the number one problem of our country. Now the country has a population of
about 11 cores within its limited area of 143,998 sq. millimeters. Population is growing at the rate of 2.36 which is undoubtdly
alarming for us. The country in its per square mile accommodates 1556 prole which denotes that Bangladesh is one of the most
densely populated countries of the world.
If population continues to grow in the above rate it is apprehended that population will assume a figure of 16 (sixteen)
crores at the end of this century.

Importance of Population in the Economic Development :
large number of childrens.
It has already been stated that population may appear both as curse and blessing for a country. Even rapid growth of population
may not be a problem for the country if abundant natural resources, huge cultivable land," improved tools for poduction activities a well
devised development programme, political stability and above all a propitious infrastructure exist in the country. In some developed countries
of the world fertiled couples are encouraged to have large number of childrens.
However in most of the underdeveloped/developing countries of the world, like Bangladesh growth rate of population is very high which
giving rise to other multifarious socio economic problems impedes normal pace of the socio-economic development of the country. In Bangladesh
our total devilment effoerts in being thwarted by the rapid growth of population. Food problem, unemployment, begging, prostitution etc. are
believed to be the negative out come of population problem. As we have, due to the above population problem low income and low saving rates,
we do not have enough capital to be utilized with the matching counterpart of foreign currencies that are facilited by us by donor countries as
aids, grants, credit etc.

How ever following are adverse effect of population in our national life.
(a) Rapid growth of population impedes our national capital formation which is indispensable for industrialization and overall economic
development of any country.
(a) Rapid growth of population impedes our national capital formation which is indispensable for industrialization and overall economic
development of any country.
(b) Uncontrolled growth of population presented us an acute unemployment problem.
(c) Food deficiency has become a permanent continued problem for our country. Every year we have to spent
lion share of our hard-earned foreign currency to import about 20 lakhs of food-grains to meet the need of
our rapidly growing population which naturally impedes development efforts of the country.
(d) Agricultural and rural development plans and phsical and memtal toil involved there with turns entirely to
futile efforts.

Remedial measures proposed to alleviate pressures of population explosion :
It is to be acknowledged that growth rate in respect of national income could by no means keep pace with
the growth rate of population. Eradication of the above problem may not be fully possible. But alleviation thereof
at least to some extent is not likely to be difficult. For the above following remedial measures are suggested.
(a) Proportionate redistribution of the existing population in different parts of the country might appear
efficatious in alleviating presure of population on the country.
(b) We should have continuous efforts to achieve the goal of the economic development of the country.
(c) Equal/proportionate distribution of national resources among people of different parts of the country.

Manpower to the different countries
(d) Wide acceptance of family planning Programmes by the mass people is to be ensured. Not merely fertile woman, but all
classes of people in the society are to be motivated towards acceptance of family planning. In this regard media of communication
should be used properly. Family planning materials are to be made easily available.
(e) Literacy condition of the country is to be improved Female education shall no more be neglected.
(f) Family comprising only one child should be awarded with incentive and other facilities like free education, a certain percentage
of added house rents (where father/mother is a service holder) advance increment etc.
(g) The load of population may be reduced by exporting manpower to the different countries of the world. In this regard govt may
taken initiative play dominating role.
(h) In oder to have efficient and educated manpower govt. should undertake free & compulsory primary/Secondary education with
stress on technical education.
Conclusion :
Population may not be a problem for developed countries like Australia, America etc. but here in our country the situation is
completely otherwise. By this time population explosion has given rise to a breakneck situation in Bangladesh. Almost in every step
our development efforts and activities are being constrained by such growth of population. Therefore
